Why Reddit Is Blocked in Indonesia
In July 2022, Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs — now called Komdigi — blocked Reddit under PSTE regulation. What Else Is Blocked in Indonesia

The filtering list is dynamic. Sites get added and removed. A service that works today may be blocked tomorrow.
Why a Simple DNS Change Often Doesn’t Work
The most common advice for bypassing internet blocks is to change your DNS settings to Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1). This fixes DNS-level blocking — where your ISP’s nameservers return a bad result for a blocked domain.
But Indonesia’s block on Reddit is not just a DNS block. It’s a combined DNS and IP-level block. Even if you bypass DNS filtering, your ISP can still intercept or refuse to route traffic to Reddit’s IP addresses.
Additionally, DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) is partially effective but doesn’t help with the IP routing block. You might resolve Reddit’s IP correctly and still get a connection timeout when you try to reach it.
